Ramadan 2017 Goals

If you don’t know anything about Ramadan, then I recommend you go read my A Non-Muslim’s Guide to Ramadan post before you read this one as it will give you some of the basic information.

Okay, so RAMADAN IS UPON US! I just want to start off by saying Ramadan Kareem to everyone you’re taking part!

For some reason, I’m really excited about this year’s Ramadan. I’m set on being the best Muslim I can this month, and I have my little list of goals to help me.

PRAY ON TIME AND PRAY THE NAWAFIL.png

I have this tendency to put off praying, even though I’m not really doing anything, BUT I’ve gotten a lot better at praying on time recently. So I want to keep on doing that and also pray the optional prayers (the nawafil).

If you didn’t know, you can pray four Rakaat before Dhuhur (noon prayer), two after it, two after Maghrib (sunset) prayer, two after Isha (night) prayer and two before Fajir (the morning prayer).

I’m really embarrassed to say that I’ve never finished reading the Quran; this is mostly because I’m not very good at reading Arabic, so it takes me about 20-40 minutes to read a page or two. I’ve been reading a couple pages a day, and at the beginning, I was actually planning on reading the whole thing by the end of the month, but then I realized that that goal was just not realistic. So I want to read at least a  page a day.

On top of that, I want to memorize more too. I’m planning on memorizing at least 5 surahs. They don’t have to be long, I just need to learn more to read in my prayers.

MAKE ZIKR MORE OFTEN AND CUT DOWN ON BAD LANGUAGE AND NEGATIVE THOUGHTS.png

Making zikr more often might be the easiest one on this list. All I have to do is make Tasbeeh after each prayer and whenever I have free time. I already started doing this regularly, so all I have to do is keep it up.

Cutting down on cursing, on the other hand, is something that I find a little more difficult. I don’t really swear a lot out loud anymore, it’s more when I think by myself.

That’s all for my Ramadan goals, but I wanted to jump in here and apologize really quickly for not posting this last week. I’ve been busy, but I promise I’ll be back to posting from now on!

Much love, Rawan 🖤 …
