So the summer holidays are right around the corner (only 4 more days for me! Bittersweet, but I’ll talk about that later), and we all know what that means: endless time to do whatever you want.
Even though, you sometimes find yourself sitting and staring at the wall in utter boredom thinking about what you want to do.
WELL THINK NO MORE! I’M HERE TO HELP!
I’ve compiled a long ass list of things you can do to kill time when you’re bored this summer.
Whether it be your room, your bathroom, your desk, bookshelves etc. Just change it up a bit. I recommend you read this post if you want to learn how to make wall decals which can be fun additions to your room.
2. SORT THROUGH YOUR PAPERS
This one isn’t exactly fun to do, but it’s good to get it out the way right after finals so you don’t get reminded of school while you’re trying to relax.
I stand by the fact that journaling is one of the best hobbies to pick up, so why not start it now and document your summer, no matter how boring it can be. (I’m planning on writing a whole post on this soon! Keep a look out for that!)
If you’re a fellow blogger then write up some blog posts and schedule them for later. If you don’t have a blog, then start one! You can share your opinions with people all over the world and make friends with similar interests.
I know reading isn’t for everyone, but it’s something you should at least try. As an avid reader, this usually keeps me busy for most of the summer. (That is until the dreaded reading slump happens.
7. TAKE PHOTOS
This one is my favorite as it pushed you to go outside (most of the time) and see what looks good on camera.
8. WORK OUT
Because I know I need to move and not sit on my bed until my ass goes numb.
9. GO OUT FOR LUNCH WITH FRIENDS
You know. You should socialize every once in a while, you know at least once a month. Just to let people know you’re alive.
10. WATCH A MOVIE
I usually average around 2 movies a day during the summer holidays. So this and reading take up 99% of my time.
I’m going to be doing a whole recommendations series soon based on the genre, where I share my favorite books TV shows and movies from a certain genre/topic. The first one that’s coming out will be about… ZOOMMMBBBBIIIIIEEEEEESSSSSSS. Yeah. I’m excited.
This is something new I’m trying out. I know it was this whole trend a couple years back, but it’s super relaxing and kind of frees your mind from all that finals weeks stress
12. PAMPER YOURSELF
I break out a lot during the summer. Especially during the summer (and finals week just amplifies that), so sitting down and putting on a mask every once in a while really helps.
13. FIND NEW MUSIC
I’m always on the hunt to find (good) new music. You can do this through youtube, Spotify, Apple Music (my pick), or SoundCloud (great for finding remixes)
14. LEARN SOMETHING NEW
I know we all just want to catch a break from school and relax our brains, but try learning something. Grab that textbook you never opened and read a paragraph, or go on the internet and find something interesting to learn.
I’m personally trying to learn Spanish this summer so I don’t look like a complete idiot next year.
15. READ AND COMMENT ON BLOGS
If you’re a blogger, then you know how much it means to us to get comments. So why not make a blogger’s day by leaving a nice comment on a post. I especially like doing this to new bloggers as it welcomes them to the blogging family.
16. CATCH UP ON SHOWS
I start so many TV series but always end up either (1) falling behind or (2) not finishing them if they’re already out. So summer is the perfect time to finish binge-watching those series.
It doesn’t matter what you write. You can write a short story, or how your day was going, your views on something going on at the moment, or look up some prompts or something and write about that. Just write and let your creativity flow.
18. PLAY A GAME
You can play a board game with someone if there are people around or you can play a game on your phone if you’re alone. I can literally spend hours playing Monopoly on my phone, try it out!
19. LISTEN TO PODCASTS
I feel like podcasts are really getting popular these days. I love listening to true crime podcasts like Casefile Try Crime and podcasts by some of my favorite people like Shane and Friends by Shane Dawson.
If you want to check out some podcasts I think every blogger should listen to, then go read this post.
20. TAKE BUZZFEED QUIZZES
Now I don’t really like Buzzfeed, but I still love to take their quizzes. I think most people fall into this black hole every once in a while, and it’s hard to get out. So if you have like 3 hours you need to fill up, go on buzzfeed.com.
21. WATCH RANDOM YOUTUBE VIDEOS
If you add up all the hours I’ve spent watching dumb youtube videos, then it would be about a month or so. I swear you can waste so much time on there. If you haven’t already, I recommend you watch the important videos playlist. That shit’s funny as hell and is about 3 hours worth of 30-second videos.
22. VIDEO CHAT
This is usually how I contact people on the outside world. Also, you could go and troll people on Omegle, but I don’t really recommend that for the faint of heart.
I’m literally on amazon adding things to my wishlist. I don’t actually buy anything, I just browse until I get bored again.
AKA a black hole which will suck you in until you have no soul. BUT it does keep you busy for extended periods of time.
25. GO ON A ROADTRIP
This one does need a bit of planning, but it’s great to break the monotonous routine of sitting at home for days.
26. MAKE A PLAYLIST
This kind of goes hand in hand with number 13. Make a playlist of your favorite 90’s songs, your favorite songs in a genre, songs to jam out to in the car etc.
27. MESS AROUND WITH SIRI
Siri is literally one of the best things Apple could’ve added to the iPhone. You can ask her to tell her to do anything and she’ll have the sassiest (unintentional?) comebacks. Great for when you’re bored out of your mind. (I’m sure you can do the same thing with Ok google or whatever it’s called on Andriod phones)
