We all see internet influencers doing a 2016 recap and roll our eyes, but I still decided to add in my 2 cents with this post. So apologies in advance.
I don’t really know what I can say about this post, to be honest, I’ve tried writing an intro for a while now, and this is all I came up with, sorry to disappoint.
Anyways, here are my thoughts on 2016 and my 2017 resolutions.
This year some amazing people came into my life, and they also left, and I don’t think they’ll ever read this, but thank you for showing me that it’s okay to open up even if you did hurt me.
I also lost a couple dear friends this year. There’s a person that I’ve known for years, I counted her as a sister and we’ve known each other ever since I was a toddler. She was almost like an older sister to me.
She’s left before, but this time it was so sudden. It left my family in a whirlpool. I don’t know how I feel about it because it all happened so quickly. If you’re reading this, I just want you to know that you really hurt us.
I wasn’t really in a good mindset this whole year, I still don’t think I am, but it’s better now. There were some really dark moments where I thought it was the end, but I pushed through and I don’t regret it.
I picked up some bad habits, and let go of some. I changed majorly, to the best or to the worst I don’t really know.
Ugh, this post is getting super angsty and sad, so let’s just go to the good things that happened to me in 2016.
Positive 2016 Moments
- I traveled a lot this year (LA, Italy, Morocco etc.)
- I read a lot of books and learned a lot this year.
- I discovered a lot fo new music.
- I changed up my hair color quite a lot.
- My blog and writing style has progressed a lot the last year.
- I started documenting and photographing a lot.
- I made a lot of friends and dear companions.
- I made a change in my lifestyle in the second half of 2016 (read this post)
- I became more independent this year.
- I tried to progress in my studies. (Still working on it)
That’s all I came up with for my positive 2016 moments which is kind of sad because there’s only 10. But I think that in 2017 I’ll be better at making memories that will stick with me.
1. Document the highs and lows
I’ve always been a fan of journaling, but I’m really inconsistent with it. So this year, I want to journal at least once a week for all of the 52 weeks in the year.
I found some old journals and I really do enjoy seeing how I was feeling and how I’ve overcome moments of sadness.
2. Take care of my body
I mean this in the least white girl way possible. I’m not a really healthy person, and I really want to go in a direction that will help me and my body in the long run.
I’m trying to go vegan/plant based diet, so I’ll be carrying that over from this year as well as cutting out all the bad sugars in my diet. I don’t want to be skinny in a way that’s going to be starving my body from its basic needs. So that’s another thing I want to be aware of when pursuing this resolution.
Another thing that kind of falls under this umbrella is mental health. I don’t want to neglect my mental health like I have this past year. I’ve been in some really bad bad places this past year and a half, and I want to fix that.
I’m going to try to talk to friends and family when things get rough instead of just keeping it inside and let it be a burden on me like it has this past year.
3. I want to reach a healthy weight
I’ve gone and found out what my BMI is and it’s not a happy number. This year I want to reach a healthy and normal weight which kind of ties in with number 2.
For my height the normal weight it 74kg, so I’ll be aiming for that weight by the end of the year.
I’m not putting this on the list to say I’m going to exercise the whole year 24/7, but I am saying that I’ll be working on my diet and exercise. Maybe I’ll go for a run once or twice a week, or do a couple jumping jacks throughout my day. As long as I’m healthy, I’m going to be okay with my outcome (hopefully)…
4. Say yes, and don’t quit
I have this really bad habit of not sticking to something that I planned beforehand. So this year, I want to be more consistent and not quit halfway through a project.
I also want to say yes to more things. Maybe just go out to the mall or something with a friend, or maybe accept a post collaboration with a brand I wouldn’t have contacted myself etc. I just want to be more diverse in my options.
5. Write more, and post consistently
I think I’ve been kind of okay with this during the first half of this past year, but I kind of stopped writing a lot when it came to the second half.
So in 2017, I want to write daily. I don’t have to post everything I write, but I think it would be a good idea to just write daily and see how my style progresses by the end of the upcoming year.
I also want to keep posting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday like I do now, so that’s 3 posts a week. By the end of the year, I want to have posted at least 156 posts in total, which I think is a reasonable number when you divide it on the year. Right? I hope I don’t regret this decision later 😛
