Let’s Talk About Audiobooks

People are very opinionated when it comes to audiobooks, and I mean really fucking opinionated.

I have a couple thoughts on why I love (and sometimes hate) audiobooks, so why not make a post on it and see what people think?

People sometimes think that listening to audiobooks doesn’t even count as ‘reading’, and to some degree, they’re right, but are they really?

Let’s talk about that…

I only got into audiobooks early this year, but now they kind of took over my life! (I’m only half kidding).

I first started out with listening to the audio book and following along with it on my physical copy, but now I alternate between the physical and the audio, or just listen to an audiobook alone (this I only just started doing recently, even though that’s how you’re supposed to listen to them lmao).

With school and blogging, I don’t have as much time to read as I usually do, so audiobooks let me ‘read’ while doing things I wouldn’t be able to normally read while doing; that’s one of the most prominent pros.

But if you’re listening to it, then you might miss a word so you’d have to rewind it to hear that part again, and that can be really time-consuming after the 5th time. At the same time, you can listen to the parts that you like over and over again.

If you want to save money, then yes, audiobooks will help you do just that (some are a bit pricey but so worth it!)

One other con I’ve faced is falling asleep while listening to them and forgetting your place. That’s the worst thing that can happen because you don’t have your finger to mark the spot, you just have the digital bookmark that’s been going while you’ve been asleep.

Some people say that if you’re not reading the words on paper (or E-reader), then it doesn’t count as reading. Well, I think that depends on your definition of ‘reading’ because reading to me doesn’t really mean the same thing as reading to you does.

Reading is escaping to a different world to me, maybe to you, it means experiencing the words on paper, so audiobooks don’t really count for you, but again, it depends on how you view it.

I don’t think someone should have to say oh I didn’t actually read it, I just listened to it they should just be able to say that they read it!

Basically, the whole point of this post is to say that what you think isn’t ‘reading’ might be what other do daily. Don’t judge people by the way they read or what they read.

Over and out.

Much love, Rawan ❤ …
